METHODOLOGY

Yearly data are obtained by every-year statistical report ”Animal husbandry” (year).

Quarterly data are obtained by statistical report “Animal husbandy” (quarter) and by data of the Animal Register of Estonian Agricultural Registers and Information Board and Estonian Animal Recording Centre.

The data were collected from agricultural holdings by sample survey. The data on agricultural household plots are estimated.

The total population of holdings includes all holdings from the Farm Register where they hold animals.

The total population of household plots includes all household plots enumerated in the Agricultural Census 2001.

The sampling frame of agricultural holdings was the Farm Register composed on the basis of the data, which had been collected in the Agricultural Census 2001 and are regularly updated.

From holdings having up to 100 cattle, 50 pigs or sheep, 500 poultry and 10 goats a simple random sample has been made. The total survey has been used on all holdings having at least or more than100 cattle, 50 pigs or sheep, 500 poultry and 10 goats.

The data collected by sample survey were expanded to the whole population. In case of unit non-response in completely enumerated stratum, the data were calculated by the data obtained from other data sources.

Data on household plots are estimated, on the assumption of the data on the Agricultural Census and agricultural holdings’ data.

Aggregated data for the country were obtained by summing up the data of holdings and agricultural household plots.
