Catch area – fixed and registered area in the sea or other pond up to 20 m with the same depth, which is formed for rational division of fish stocks and catch places, for use and protection or for fish farming in natural ponds.
Catch area depends on its former and can be:
- national catch area;
- catch area of local administration;
- private catch area.
Fisherman licence – gives right to catch fish by professional instruments in the sea up to 20 m with the same depth or in Lake Peipus, Lämmi or Pihkva Lake or in the pond belongimg to the state.
Professional fish catch – the catch of fish by professional instruments of catch (long-lines, entangling nets, trap-nets, brood-nets, drag-nets).
The Baltic Sea fish catch – the catch in the open area and/or in coastal zone.
Ocean fish catch – the catch at a distance of own coast, in open ocean or in economic zones of other countries.
Licence of limited fish catch – gives right to fish in sea up to 20 m with the same depth or in Lake Peipus, Lämmi or Pihkva Lake at water area of 1 kilometre wide or in Võrtsjärv Lake limited quantity of fish by professional instruments (by 1–3 entangling nets or by one up to 1 meter height trap-net or by ground long-line with maximum 250 fish-hooks).
Fish catch with limited licence – fish catch with limited licence, which gives the right to catch fish by limited instruments.
Inland water catch – the fish catch in inland water.
The data of fish catch in fishing diaries and other fishing documents are based on administrative data of Fishery Economics Department of the Ministry of Agriculture. The quantity of fish caught by hobby fishing is not included.
The legal persons and individuals produce the data of fish catch to the regional office of the Ministry of Agriculture. The Fishery Economics Department of the Ministry of Agriculture produces analysed and aggregated data to Statistics Estonia.
Population
Fish catch in the Baltic Sea and inland waters: individuals who own lots in coastal zone and who have a licence for limited fishing and legal persons and individuals who have a licence for fishing.
Open sea fish catch: legal persons who have a licence for fishing in the ocean.
